Meaning & Inspiration

The LiveLikeTim logo certainly isn’t simple, but life isn’t simple either. I wanted a visual representation of the core LiveLikeTim philosophy. Here is an explanation of the logo elements.

Balance and Ancient Wisdom: Lotus Posture

I drew this outline using a picture of my body in the lotus posture, a meditation position found in ancient spiritual systems such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Zen, Egyptian Mythology and Taoism. I chose the lotus because it is an easily recognizable symbol of inner wisdom and balance. The hands normally rest on the thighs; however I modified the posture to resemble a balance beam. With the arms outstretched there is a subtle Christian connotation as well, although that is not my intent. The lotus posture is said to be the destroyer of all diseases. The posture requires work to master, much like the LiveLikeTim Life routines, but when the posture is attained it is considered the most natural way to sit. The nervous system is balanced and aligned thereby allowing energy to flow between the mind and body. This enables growth of consciousness and perfect health.

Primal Living: March of Progress

Published in the book Early Man by Francis Clark Howell (1965), this universally recognizable sequence of figures illustrates man’s March of Progress. This symbol serves as a reminder that humans took millions of years to evolve. Our modern genetic code is a 99.9% match with our ancestors, and ingrained in our DNA are the tendencies towards a primal lifestyle. The foundation of the LiveLikeTim philosophy is to acknowledge our primal roots while also embracing progress.

Modern Culture: Vitruvian Man

One of the most recognizable artist images in the world, Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man symbolizes the ideal human proportions. Science and technology dominate modern culture, and I selected the Vitruvian Man because it is commonly used as a contemporary symbol of Western and Eastern medical professions. Likewise, the core LiveLikeTim philosophy takes into account both "normal" allopathic Western medicine and “alternative” Eastern holistic approaches. The image itself exemplifies the blend of art and science, and is also said to be da Vinci’s attempt to relate man to nature—a fitting parallel to the LiveLikeTim philosophy.
